Amphipolis is a municipality in the Serres regional unit of Greece. In classical antiquity, it was a polis that was part of the region of Makedonia.

In 422 BCE, the city was the site of a battle between the defending Spartans led by Brasidas against the Athenians led by Kleon. During the battle, Brasidas was killed by Deimos, who in return was defeated by the misthios Kassandra. At the same time, Kassandra also defeated Kleon, who was also a Sage of the Cult of Kosmos.
