Lagos the Archon (died c. 428 BCE) was a Greek politician during the 5th century BCE and a member of the Peloponnesian League branch of the Cult of Kosmos active in Arkadia during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
An Arcadian farm owner, Lagos rose to become the leader of the region during the 5th century BCE, his wife Philonoe and his son Niloxenos beside him while he kept the 'breadbasket of Peloponnese' full.[1]
Friendship with Brasidas
When the soldiers serving under the Spartan general Brasidas were starving, Lagos managed to get supplies to them. Whether their friendship began before or after this incident is unknown, but this deed made enough of an impression on Brasidas that he reminisced about it years later during the Peloponnesian War.[2] The two kept in contact throughout the years and grew close, with Brasidas even referring to Lagos as a "dear friend." In turn, Lagos mentioned how Kassandra's words reminded him of Brasidas when he was her age.[3]
Due to this friendship and Lagos' aid, Brasidas wanted to free Lagos from the Cult of Kosmos' grasp when he came to Arkadia with Myrrine and her daughter, the misthios Kassandra in around 428 BCE.[1]

The Peloponnesian War
Following the meeting the Cultists returned to their posts. Pausanias had Lagos' family placed under guard, and then taken to their hideout within the Golden Fields of Arkadia.[4] A servant who was with them was later separated and brought to the Scorched Tree in the area.[2]
After rumors spread of the 'Eagle-Bearer' hunting the Cultists, Lagos locked himself within Fort Samikon, after being pressured by the Cult to place a bounty on both Kassandra as well as her mother Myrrine.[1] Despite the bounty hunters chasing her, Kassandra was able to track Lagos to the Fort, infiltrate it and face him.[3]

Lagos was considered benevolent pacifist for whom placing bounties and using threats was out of character.[1] His family was everything to him, and by threatening their welfare Lagos could be forced to do anything.[5]
He also had dignity, facing death "as Spartans do."[3]
