Ionia was an ancient region located on the western coast of Anatolia, present-day Turkey.

Legacy

Ionia was known for its variety of white grapes called psythia which produced a very sweet wine known today as Liasto.[1] Another claim to fame from the region was being the birthplace of Greek philosophy after the 6th century BCE. The first philosophers dedicated themselves to natural philosophy and were called physikoi or physiologoi.[2]
