Himilko was a mercenary wandering around the Greece during the 5th century BCE. A former friend of another mercenary, Heitor, Himilko crossed paths with Heitor's former pupil Kassandra during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
At some point before the Peloponnesian War, Himilko married a woman. Unknown to him at first, said woman was also, according to Heitor, the "love of [his] life". This changed when Himilko walked in on the couple.[1]
In an attempt to defend his honor, Himilko drew his sword, and Heitor responded in kind. In the following scuffle between the men, their swords struck the woman when she attempted to stop them, and she died.[1]
Afterwards, Heitor reached Attika, settling down in the village of Dekelia. Meanwhile, Himilko remarried [2] and was apprehended and imprisoned by soldiers of the Rhamnous Military Camp.[1] When Heitor saw his old pupil Kassandra, he asked her to free the fellow mercenary. She did so, and when she escorted Himilko to a nearby shore, they found Heitor waiting there by a boat. Kassandra learned that Heitor had tasked her to rescue Himilko so that Heitor might kill him. With Kassandra's help, the men decided to part ways and never see each other again.[1]
Despite the wish of Himilko's second wife, Himilko continued to deal with mercenaries. Worried, his wife posted a notice seeking the aid of Kassandra. When Kassandra found her, Himilko's wife tasked Kassandra to kill the mercenary Himilko had "gotten into trouble with".[2]
