"Many of you knew my father, Halfdan the Black. A great man who achieved great things."
―Harald on his father, 872.[src]-[m]

Halfdan the Black (c. 810 – 860) was a 9th century king of Vestfold and the father of Harald Fairhair, the first king of a unified Norway.

During his time, Halfdan was in possession of a seax that he sought to pass down to his son. However, the seax was misplaced and eventually wound up in Eikundarsund.[1] Following Halfdan's passing, he was succeeded by Harald, who would go on to join the various petty kingdoms into a unified Norway.[2]
