George II (1683 – 1760), sometimes referred to as George Augustus of Hanover, was King of Great Britain and Ireland, and Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg from his ascendancy on 22 June 1727 until his death.

Biography

In 1732, King George II offered to the First Prime Minister Robert Walpole the 10 Downing Street as a gift, but Walpole only accepted the offer on the condition that the house became the official residence of the Prime Minister.[1]

In 1748, King George aided King Frederick I of Sweden financing his fleet. The Swedish Brotherhood of Assassins, who operated under the Swedish Levant Company, started speculating some Templar influences in King George's court.[2] This concern was also shared by the Spanish Brotherhood.[3]

He was succeeded by his grandson, George William Frederick.[4]
