Euripides (c. 480 – c. 406 BCE) was an ancient Greek tragedian who lived during the 5th century BCE.
He made the acquaintance of the Spartan misthios Kassandra During the Peloponnesian War at one of Perikles' symposiums.[1]
Trivia
- Interestingly, Euripedes was extremely popular in Syracuse, in Sicily. After the disastrous Athenian expedition, several prisoners were sent off to the stone quarries for life. However, those among the prisoners who could recite any of Euripedes' works were freed.
