Dmitry Vladimirovich Karakozov (1840 – 1866) was a Russian political activist who became known as the first revolutionary in the Russian Empire to make an attempt on the life of the Tsar.
Born into a landwoning family in within the Russian Empire, Dmitry was one of the young apprentices inducted by the British Assassin Simeon Price during the Assassin's time in Russia. In 1866, he made a failed attempt to assassinate Tsar Alexander II and was hanged for his crime, while his friends and accomplices were sent to either prison, hard labor, or exile in Siberia.[1]
As a last request after his capture, Dmitry wrote a letter to Simeon, requesting his aid to make sure that his fellow members were cared for and not hounded by the secret police.[1]
