Chrysis (died 431 BCE) was a priestess of Hera and a member of the Cult of Kosmos, operating under the Worshippers of the Bloodline branch. She was the mother of Dolops. She kept his birth a secret as it brought shame to her.^[1]

Biography

In 448 BCE, she was responsible for saving a young Alexios, faking his death to his mother, Myrrine, and eventually she indoctrinated him into the Cult. She did the same with many other children, raising them to be weapons for the Cult. She then forced the elder priest, Mydon, to cut out his tongue in order to conceal his involvement.^[2]

In 431 BCE, Chrysis publicly opposed the medical practices of Hippokrates and demanded he publicly prostrate himself before the gods and claims his skills to be god-given. She subsequently confronted his apprentice, Sostratos, and threatened to rally a mob and shut down Hippokrates' clinic if he did not submit to her demands. Around the same time, she encountered the misthios Kassandra.^[2]

With Kassandra currently unaware of her affiliation with the Cult, Chrysis gave orders to the Priests of Asklepios, threatening them to keep their silence regarding Myrinne and Alexios, but the misthios was able to obtain the information nonetheless through Mydon.^[2]

Knowing that Kassandra was on to her, Chrysis left a dead eagle at Altar of Apollo Maleatas as a warning. Subsequently, the misthios was drawn to a nearby building by an infant boy's cries, where Chrysis was waiting. The cultist boasted of her past deeds and tried to recruit Kassandra to the Cult but the latter threatened her with death. Calling out Kassandra as hypocrite as well as a killer no different than her brother, Chrysis set the building aflame in an effort to escape but was assassinated by Kassandra nonetheless.^[2]

Personality and characteristics

In the beginning, Chrysis was a devote worshiper of the Greek gods until she was recruited by the Cult of Kosmos, becoming a cruel and fanatical individual. As exemplified by her opposition to Hippokrates' medical practices, she believes that only deities could deliver healing and not the hands of man.^[2]

In her interactions with Kassandra, Chrysis demonstrated an delusional obsession with the Bloodline, believing herself a "mother" to the grandchildren of Leonidas.^[2]

Trivia

In the novel Chrysis is killed by her son Dolops (who is a composite character of his game counterpart and Mydon) as she is fleeing the Altar of Apollo Maleatas after setting it aflame to stall Kassandra.
In Ashes to Ashes, the player can choose to either save the baby from the fire Chrysis caused or assassinate the cultist. If the former was chosen, Chrysis can still be killed in Death Comes For Us All.
