Denewulf (died 908) was the Bishop of Wincestre from 878 until his death.

Biography

In 878, Denewulf was visited by Brother Ealric, who sought the bishop's support for King Alfred's cause of strengthening Wincestre's defenses in the face of imminent Viking attacks. Swayed by Ealric's words, Denewulf discussed the matter with his brothers. Later, at Witan Hall, Denewulf voiced the "Church's" support for the king, causing the ealdormen of Wincestre to reluctantly pledge their allegiance to Alfred's cause.[1]
