Where are the paintings?

Wares and Shadows was a virtual representation of one of Basim ibn Ishaq's genetic memories relived through the Animus.[1]

Description

Basim arrived at the old town's market to gather information on his father's location.

Dialogue

Basim reached AlUla Market, hoping to find clues of his father's whereabouts.

  • Basim: Surely this is the market Nimlot spoke of.

The market was bustling with people, tailors, blacksmiths, and traders. One merchant had a price logbook that he read.

Merchant Logbook

80 dirhams per crate / Incense - 120 dirhams per bag / Set 2 bags aside for the merchant from Yatrib

A female merchant who got Basim's attention called to him.

  • Merchant: Please, behold the wares I have on offer. Take a look. I promise you will find my wares most inviting.
  • Basim: What a splendid market you have here. Treasures at every turn!
  • Merchant: We do our best, though it cannot compare to Baghdad.
  • Basim: I am glad of it. I came here to escape Baghdad, if only for a while.
  • Merchant: In that case, you will find AlUla offers much to discover. Still, we harbor our share of shadows...
  • Basim: Such as?
  • Merchant: Venture beyond that path with caution... They say it leads to the black heart of this market, where ugly desires find purchase.

As the merchant explained to Basim of the city's lurking danger, he saw a robber speaking to a Caliphal guard. Basim decided to follow him.

  • Basim: His garb mirrors that of the robbers I met earlier. I must follow him.

Quietly stalking after his target, Basim wondered if the robber carried something of value.

  • Basim: It is a list of hidden spots where the robbers keep their weapons. There are many... even inside the Musa ibn Nusayr Fort.

Suddenly, more Caliphal guards called out to the robber and tried to arrest him, only for him to flee.

  • Guard: Stop right there, dog!
  • Guard 2: Do not let him get away!
  • Basim: What is happening over there?

The guards went after the robber.

  • Robber: Off with you!
The robber caught Basim in the act and tried to escape. As Basim ran after him, some Caliph guards joined the pursuit.

  • Basim: I cannot let them get to him first. My only chance to question him depends on it!

Basim followed the robber to a dark alley.

  • Basim: I was not swift enough. Enkidu, will you help me again, friend?
With Enkidu's help, Basim tracked the robber and pursuing guards to a dark alley. He followed as fast as he could and caught up with them.

The guards reached them seconds later, only for one to punch Basim in the head instead of help detain the robber. As he passed out, the Hidden One saw the scarred face of an unknown man staring down at him.

Outcome

Led into an ambush, Basim was captured by the robbers and sent to Musa ibn Nusayr fort.
