This article is about Basim Ibn Ishaq's genetic memory. You may be looking for Shao Jun's memory of the same name.

The Return was a virtual representation of one of Basim Ibn Ishaq's genetic memories relived through the Animus.

Description[edit | edit source]

Basim returned, once more, to the Sharqiyah bureau.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Basim, Ali ibn Muhammad, and the Zanj rebels fought their way out of The Great Garrison. As they pushed their way, more guards arrived to attack.

  • Ali: This is a great beginning!
  • Basim: Why do they fight? Their Warlord lies dead already.
  • Rebel: Allah fights with us!
  • Basim: That is it. Let us get out of here.
  • Ali: Follow me. Stay close!

They reached the outer courtyard.

Basim and the rebels fighting Turkic guards
  • Basim: Is this what you mean by freedom? Brawling our way out of a garrison?
  • Ali: Why? Do you lack the stomach for an honest fight?
  • Basim: No, I just prefer... an honest assassination. I hope you trained your men better than the Warlord trained his.
  • Ali: Can you not see for yourself? The fight is almost over already!

They reached outside the garrison.

  • Basim: We made it! That was close.
  • Ali: Not close, inevitable.

More soldiers arrived.

  • Ali: More guards! You fight with a venom. Perhaps our cause appeals to you more than you admit?

Basim and the rebels managed to escape the guards and found themselves hiding in an alleyway.

  • Ali: That is the last of them!
  • Basim: Let us go out the same way we came in.
  • Ali: Oh no, my friend. We are leaving through the front gate. Keep up! We are close. The victory is ours!
  • Rebel: We are with you, Sahib az-Zanj (Chief of the Zanj)!
  • Ali: This is a good day! I will meet you at the Bureau.
Ali rallying his men

Basim left the group as Ali spoke to his men.

  • Ali: Our fight begins! We will have freedom, or death! God is great!
  • Rebel: There is no God but God!
  • Ali: God is great!
  • Rebel: There is no God but God!
  • Ali: God is great!
  • Rebel: There is no God but God!
  • Basim: I should return to Fuladh at the Bureau.

Having killed Wasif, Basim returned to the bureau in Sharqiyah to meet with Fuladh Al Haami.

  • Fuladh: If you mention the cat, it will come. And here he is.
  • Basim: Go softly, come softly, so the cat does not gore you.

Basim handed Fuladh the bloodied feather, which he put away before Ali entered the room.

  • Ali: You have honored your word. Wasif lies dead, and all who hear of it, hear of me.
  • Basim: I regret we could not save Beshi. He was a brave man.
Ali parting with the Hidden Ones
  • Ali: Already they tell his story throughout Baghdad. He will free more by his death than he did in life. Freedom has a price. The only question is whether we will pay it. Beshi was proud to. I have much to do. I would wish peace upon you both, but... we know that is not in your future. Nor mine.

Ali left.

  • Fuladh: I fear Ali is right. Nothing will stop his rebellion now.
  • Basim: Maybe nothing should. The things he says...

Basim shook his head before continuing.

  • Basim: At the Garrison, we saw Wasif arguing with Governor Muhammad ibn Tahir.
  • Fuladh: Muhammad? That is odd. I will keep eyes on him. Araka Lahiqan! (See you later!)

Outcome[edit | edit source]

Basim delivered the bloodied feather to Fuladh.
