Timoxenos was a priest of Asklepios working as a scribe at the Sanctuary of Asklepios in Argolis, Greece during the 5th century BCE.
During the Peloponnesian War Timoxenos was approached by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, asking about a Spartan mother who had come to the Sanctuary with an injured baby in the past. While afraid of the consequences seeing talking with the 'Eagle Bearer' might cause, Timoxenos was still willing to help Kassandra. He took her on a tour through the stone records of the Sanctuary, telling her about Chrysis as well.[1]
When they found the correct stone, they discovered that the record had been spoiled, the words scratched out. Timoxenos told Kassandra the story anyway, telling her that he knew it 'by heart.' Unfortunately, they were interrupted by another priest, Pleistos, and parted ways.[1]
Later, Timoxenos met Kassandra again by the Olive Tree of Herakles, outside the Sanctuary. There, Timoxenos told Kassandra that the Spartan woman had left the baby's blanket behind, and that even though the priests attempted to return the blanket, the woman refused it on the grounds of being too painful of a reminder.
However, their talk was interrupted again by Pleistos, this time accompanied by guards of the Cult of Kosmos. Kassandra dealt with them, and Timoxenos gave her the Spartan baby blanket.[1]
