Thespis was an Athenian actor and a friend of Aristophanes who lived during the late 5th century BCE.

In around 427 BCE, he was involved in a plot to sabotage the reputation of Kleon, a general and a Sage of the Cult of Kosmos.[1]

Later in 422 BCE, he was present in Elis to conduct a play potraying King Leonidas I of Sparta.[1]
