Sostratos was a Greek physician and apprentice of Hippokrates, who lived in Argos, Argolis, during the Peloponnesian War.
When Hippokrates left Argos in a hurry during the war, Sostratos remained behind to do what he could. He also had to endure the verbal lashing Chrysis, a priestess of Hera from the nearby Heraion of Argos, laid on him as he refused to tell the priestess where Hippokrates was. The exchange was cut short by the appearance of the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who had come to the clinic looking for the healer himself.[1]
Sostratos directed Kassandra to the Cave of Pan, where Hippokrates had set up camp. Sostratos also warned the misthios not to mention Hippokrates' loss of hair.[1]
Personality
According to Hippokrates, Sostratos made good enough of a doctor, but he was unparalleled as an apprentice.[1]
