The Sikh Army was the military force of the Sikh Empire. It was modernized in terms of principles and training by its leader, Maharaja Ranjit Singh.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
On 27 June 1839, the Sikh Army suffered a major blow after the death of their Maharaja at the hands of the British Templar Francis Cotton. Unfortunately, the Sikh soldiers were misled by Cotton's false accusation and attacked the Indian Assassin Arbaaz Mir, believing him to be Singh's killer. With the loss of the Maharaja, the Sikh Empire and its army gradually began to crumble.[2]
For the next two years, the army continued to protect the last surviving members of Singh's family, including his granddaughter Pyara Kaur. This forced Arbaaz to avoid them as he infiltrated the summer palace in Amritsar to visit the princess.[3]
