Biography
Safiya and Gamal housed British Brotherhood member Pierrette Arnaud during her time in Cairo, eventually considering her part of the family.[2]
On 1 November 1869, Pierrette felt her and Safiya being followed and signal for them to change course, moving to the rooftops opposite a street where Gamal had set up his book cart. Noticing her friend's unease, Safiya asked if Pierrette wanted to go through the plan for that night's mission again, speaking in French, which Pierrette was more used to, rather than the Arabic she usually spoke to help her practice. While going through the plan, Gamal gave them a sign they were being listened to and Safiya went to deal with the threat, a Templar lackey, as Gamal created a diversion.[1] Safiya and Pierrette hid the spy's body and once night fell, Gamal and Safiya used the book cart to take the body to a nearby necropolis while Pierrette went to the Khedivial Opera House for her mission.[3]
In the early hours of the following day, the trio went back to the opera house to dispose of the body of Pierrette's target before returning to their house and discussing the modified cane Hawkins had rigged to explode and kill Khedive Ismail Pasha. The trio went to inform council member Amira Benyamina who, noting that even some Templars would hesitate to bomb an opera house full of people, decided to get more information on Hawkins, while tasking the trio with investigating the railroad he had built leading to seemingly nowhere.[2]
