Phoibe (died 429 BCE) was an Athenian girl who became the protégé of Kassandra during the Peloponnesian War.^[1]

Orphaned on Kephallonia, Phoibe endured a hard childhood through which she found Kassandra, a Spartan exiled at an early age, deeply relatable. In turn, the girl's personality and background resonated with the Spartan, and the two forged a fierce bond akin to that of a mentor and pupil.^[1]

Biography

Being an orphan on Kephallonia, Phobie more often than not had to rely on herself and her own wits in order to survive. Fortunately, she found herself under the care of Markos, similar to Kassandra several years ago.

During her time on Kephallonia, she unknowingly became a pawn of The Cult of Kosmos, by providing them information about Kassandra which allowed them to discover her. This set in motion a series of events which ultimately allowed Kassandra leaving the island, before leaving however she spoke with Kassandra wanting to see her again before she left.

Later, she found herself in the employment of Aspasia, the wife of Perikles. It's here that she encountered Kassandra again, much to the latter's surprise. Over the course of working for Aspasia, she would help Kassandra with various tasks and helping her to further her goals of dismantling the cult and finding her family.

When Kassandra returned to Athens in 429 BCE, she found the city in a state of panic. Phoibe, running a task for Aspasia briefly encountered Kassandra for the last time.

During this course of events, The Cult of Kosmos cornered Phoibe and killed her. Upon this discovery, Kassandra was enraged and even further motivated to destroy the organization.

Before leaving Athens, Kassandra had tasked Sokrates and Hippokrates of giving her a proper funeral.

Personality and characteristics

Phoibe was a feisty girl with a passionate sense of independence. These qualities endeared her to Kassandra, but her stubbornness nonetheless challenged their relationship at times.^[1]

Trivia

Phoibe, Φοιβη, is a Greek name derived from the word φοιβος (phoibos), meaning 'bright, pure'.
