The Petrified Islands are a group of Greek islands located in the northeastern Aegean Sea. It was home to the poet, Sappho, and contained the city of Mytilene, which rebelled against the Athenians at one point, resulting in its subjugation.[1]

Deciduous forests adorn these islands, and one in particular was held in the time of the Peloponnesian War to have been mystical. Its economy during that era specialized in wine-making.[1]
