A bust depicting Pericles

Perikles (c. 495 BCE – c. 429 BCE), also known as Pericles, was an Athenian statesman, orator and general during the 5th century BCE. He was also the lover and partner of Aspasia.

During the Peloponnesian War, he was a leader of Athens during the conflict against the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta.
