The Peloros

The Peloros was a pirate trireme sailing the Aegean Sea with lesser pirate vessels during the 5th century BCE.

During the Peloponnesian War the Adrestia, commanded by the Spartan misthios Kassandra and captained by Barnabas, engaged the Peloros and his companions in battle, and sank it. Kassandra claimed the sail and finery of Peloros for her own.[1]

Trivia

  • The ship shares its name with one of the Spartoi, mythical people who sprang up from dragon's teeth sown by Cadmus, and were believed to be the ancestors of the Thebian nobility.
