Pellene was the easternmost city-state of Achaia, a region in Greece. In the 5th century BCE, its outskirts were scavenging grounds for reclaimed lumber which became a vital part of Achaia's overall ship-building industry based in Patrai.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, Pellene was also the first to join Sparta's Peloponnesian League.[2]
