Opous (Ancient Greek: Ὀποῦς) was a polis of ancient Greece, located in the Red Lake Bay region of Lokris. The hometown of the hero Patroklos, the city was famous for having aided King Leonidas I of Sparta during the Second Persian invasion of Greece and for its pirates harassing Athenian traders during the Peloponnesian War.
The city also served as the home of Supideo, as well as his parents, both adoptive Katina and Pedasos, as well as his birth-parents, the blacksmith Kosta and the leader of the Red Lake Bandits.[1]
During the war the city was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
