Odessa was a Megarian adventurer and a descendant of Odysseus who lived during the 5th century BCE in Greece.
Sometime in 431 BCE she made the acquaintance of the Spartan misthios Kassandra.
Biography
Born to a wealthy farmer in Megaris, and named after Odysseus, Odessa had grown up in comfort, save for a heart with a wanderlust.[1]
After she'd grown up enough, Odessa embarked on a journey to reach Odysseus' home island of Ithaka, in order to learn more about her ancestor. However, when she reached the island, she was caught by bandits, and locked up. Fortunately for her, Kassandra had come to the island, too, and freed her. Together, they explored Odysseus' Palace. Disappointed with what she found, she decided to return home in Megaris.[2]
Odessa later met Kassandra again at her farm in Megaris, and asked Kassandra to gather some herbs at the Stone Pyramid in the valley to help her ailing father. When Kassandra returned, the farm was under attack by bandits. One of the bandits had a letter on him, revealing they were after Odessa on the orders of the leader of Megaris.[3]
Odessa asked Kassandra to find proof of the leader's involvement in the attempts on Odessa's life. The evidence that Kassandra retrieved within the leader's house revealed that her assailants had been ordered to harass and even kill her, because the leader of Megaris wanted Odessa's estate. The leader had even orchestrated suitors for Odessa, Palermon and Praxis, the latter of which had turned up dead "mysteriously." The letters retrieved also mentioned how Odessa had hired mercenaries in the past, namely Xenokles the Hyena. Revealing all this to Odessa, and believing her to be the victim, Kassandra welcomed her as one of her lieutenants aboard the Adrestia.[4]
