O Yan Do' Ne was a legendary moose that roamed around the land of 9th century Vinland. It was named after the mythical beast of the same name in Iroquois folklore who personified the east wind that blew its breath "to chill the young clouds as they float through the sky" and was controlled by the wind spirit Gaoh[1]
History
In the 870s, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan travelled to Vinland to hunt down and assassinate Gorm Kjotvesson, the Maegester of the Wardens of War sect of the Order of the Ancients.[2] Along her journey in Vinland, Eivor came across the great creature in the area called Ioterio'tatteròn:ke, just north of the viewpoint of Teiotenontatase:ke. Upon entering its domain, Eivor startled O Yan Do' Ne and the legendary moose began to attack the warrior. After a lengthy battle, Eivor had beaten and killed the creature.
