Konwahawíshon was one of the coleaders of the Kanien'kehá:ka village of Karonhiakèn:iate' during the 9th century. Along with Karonhiaktátie', she was in charge of tending to their people and the village's activities.

Biography

Not much was known of Konwahawíshon's childhood, but as an adult, she appeared to be one of the Kanien'kehá:ka's village leaders. In 875 CE, she met the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, who arrived at their village after sailing from England seeking the location of Gorm Kjotvesson,[1] the Wolf Clan's de facto leader[2] and Maegester of the Wardens of War sect of the Order of the Ancients.[3]

However, the conversation between Eivor, Konwahawíshon, and Karonhiaktátie' was stagnant, as neither leader spoke Saxon or Norse while Eivor was unversed in any Kanienʼkéha. However, when Sýnin landed on Eivor's arm, Konwahawíshon dropped her suspicions and thus Karonhiaktátie' did as well. As Eivor appeared to be friendly, Konwahawíshon led her to the village's waterfall, where the seer known to the residents of Nyhofn as "Olav the Unlucky" was being kept. After introducing Eivor to Olav, Konwahawíshon took her leave.[1]

As Olav told Eivor where she might start her hunt for Gorm, Konwahawíshon walked around her village as Eivor set on her path.[4] After Gorm's assassination, Eivor returned to deliver the good news to Olav, who then invited her to the Kanien'kehá:ka's nightly session of stories around the fire. The first speaker was Konwahawíshon herself, who spoke to the small audience of Karonhiaktátie' and a handful of adults and children.[5]

Eivor arrived in the middle of Konwahawíshon's story, and despite not knowing a word, sat down and listened. When Konwahawíshon concluded her tale, Karonhiaktátie' invited Eivor to tell a story her own. After a moment's thought, she regaled the story of how Loki's treachery brought about Baldr's death. At the end of her story, Eivor talked with both village leaders and revealed the Crystal Ball she took from Gorm. Eivor gave Konwahawíshon the Crystal Ball for protection and in the hope that they would know its true porpose in time. After returning the Crystal Ball, Eivor gave her thanks to Konwahawíshon and Karonhiaktátie' and said her goodbyes to them.[5]
