Halfdan the Black (c. 810 – c. 860) was a 9th century petty king of Vestfold and the father of Harald Fairhair, the first king of a unified Norway.
Biography
Reign
During his time, Halfdan was in possession of a seax that he sought to pass down to his son. However, the seax was misplaced and eventually wound up in Eikundarsund.[1]
Legacy
Following Halfdan's passing, he was succeeded by Harald, who would go on to join the various petty kingdoms into a unified Norway.[2] At least a decade after his passing, his seax was found by the Raven Clan shieldmaiden, Eivor Varinsdottir, when she explored the region it was lost in and claim it for herself.[1]
