Halakuf was an Egyptian farmer who lived during the 1st century BCE.
Biography
Halakuf and his brother worked in a field near the Theban Necropolis in Upper Egypt, always paying their dues and taxes on time to Tychon, the nomarch of Thebes Nome. In 38 BCE, the region was struck by a curse which saw the deceased pharaoh being seemingly brought back to life. Halakuf fled for his life while his brother was struck down the apparition. In addition, the harvest was affected by the fields nearby became flooded which brought in numerous wild animals such as crocodiles and hippopotamuses. As a result, many farmers abandoned their tools and the farm lands, with only a few including Halakuf remain.[1]
Unable to conduct the harvest, Halakuf was unable to pay his dues, which led the Tychon to send soldiers and extort from him. Halakuf was rescued when the Hidden One Bayek of Siwa passed by and eliminated the soldiers. Halakuf explained to Bayek of his situation, which led the Hidden One to help him recover the tools and clear the area of the beasts.[1]
