Gortyn is a municipality and an archaeological site in Messara, Greece. In classical antiquity, it existed as a city-state alongside Lato and Kydonia on the island. The city's law code was also the oldest of the Occidental world.

Trivia

  • In Greek mythology, the city was where Europa gave birth to Minos, the legendary first King of Crete.
