Duris was a merchant living in the town of Sami, Kephallonia, during the 5th century BCE.

Biography

An acquaintance of Markos and the misthios Kassandra, Duris often borrowed money from the former and was often into debt. In 431 BCE, he once again owed money to Markos,[1] who himself borrowed money from the Cyclops of Kephallonia to purchase a vineyard for himself.[2]

Having owed Kassandra money as well, Markos asked her to collect the money from Duris herself.[1] Kassandra travelled to the town, where she attempted to push Duris for the money. In this capacity, Duris refused to hand over the money and informed Kassandra of Markos' debt to the Cyclops. Regardless, Kassandra was able obtain the money from the merchant.[2]

Trivia

  • Kassandra can choose to forgo the debt and return to Markos directly. If she chose to collect the debt, she could either destroy the wares or attack Duris himself. Regardless, the debt will be paid.
