The Delian League was an association of Greek poleis – city-states – aligned with Athens leading up to, and during, the Peloponnesian War. Many of the League's more influential and powerful leaders were secretly members of the Cult of Kosmos.
Centered in Attika, Athens' heavy-handed dominance of its fellow League members and its rising power eventually led to the outbreak of war with Sparta's Peloponnesian League in 431 BCE.[1]
History
The League was first created in 478 BCE to combat the Achaemenid Empire in the east. It was originally made up of Ionian cities and the Aegean islands, which in turn supplied money and supplies for the joint war efforts.[1]
