―Darius II introducing himself to Darius[src]-[m]

Darius II Ochus (died 404 BCE) was king of the Achaemenid Empire from 423 BCE until his death in 404 BCE.

Biography

The son of Artaxerxes I, Darius was tasked by Amorges, a leader of the Order of the Ancients, to look after Elpidios, the son of the misthios Kassandra, whom he had kidnapped.

After Amorges' eventual defeat, he provided his old friend Artabanus–who now operated under the name of "Darius"–with Elpidios' whereabouts. On a small island south of Messenia, Darius handed over the baby to Kassandra before being greeted by Artabanus. After Darius introduced himself as Artaxerxes II's son, he was entrusted by the elderly Artabanus with keeping Persia safe.[1]
