―Darius II introducing himself to Darius[src]-[m]

Darius II Ochus (died 404 BCE) was King of the Achaemenid Empire from 423 BCE until his death in 404 BCE.

Biography

The son of Artaxerxes I, Darius was employed by Amorges, a leader of the Order of the Ancients, to look after Elpidios, the son of the misthios Kassandra whom he took away. Around this time, Darius resided on a small island south of Messenia, Greece. After Amorges' defeat, he provided his old friend Darius and Kassandra the details on Elpidios' whereabouts. Darius handed over the baby to Kassandra before being greeted by Darius. Introducing himself as Artaxerxes' son, he was entrusted by the elderly Darius to keep Persia safe.[1]

Trivia

  • It is unknown whether Darius is aware of his father's survival of the assassination attempt by the Order.
