The Cyclops of Kephallonia (died 431 BCE) was a crime lord who established himself on the Greek island of Kephallonia. For a time, he became a virtual ruler of the island through his racketeering of the local population enforced by his thugs, but his reign was ended when he was slain by the exiled Spartan misthios Kassandra.
He acquired his nickname for his missing left eye, which he replaced with an obsidian replica in shame, for he was sensitive to his disability and moniker.
Biography
At some point prior to 431 BCE, the Cyclops settled down in Kephallonia, putting up a residence within the Cursed Valley of Pali.[1]
In 431 BCE, the Cyclops loaned drachmae to Markos so he could buy a vineyard. When Markos failed to pay up, the Cyclops sent his men to harass Markos and his associate, the misthios Kassandra.[2] Markos retaliated by sending Kassandra to steal the Cyclops' obsidian eye, planning on selling it to pay off of his debt.[3]
Sometime later, The Cyclops encountered the captain of the Adrestia, Barnabas, who recalled an adventure of his where he encountered a "one-eyed monster". Thinking that Barnabas was insulting him, the Cyclops proceeded to torture him by drowning him in a vat. He was subsequently interrupted by Kassandra, who was in possession of his missing eye. When the Cyclops demanded it back, the misthios proceeded to shove it up the backside of a goat, provoking him into attacking. The cyclops and his men were ultimately defeated and slain by Kassandra.[4]
Simulation
In the simulation of the Underworld created by the Isu Aletheia, the Cyclops of Kephallonia was recreated as one of the Fallen. At some point during the simulation, the Cyclops encountered Phoibe, the young friend of Kassandra. Still bitter about his last memories of the misthios, the Cyclops kidnapped Phoibe, stole her toy eagle and forced her to drink Lethe's water.[5]
Behind the scenes
The obsidian eye belonging to the Cyclops can be obtained by killing the goat that the eyed was stuffed into. It can then be sold for 2750 drachmae.
