Development[edit | edit source]

Assassin's Creed: Freerunners was released in open beta as part of Ubisoft Nano, a website dedicated to browser based party games based on Ubisoft properties. The game is part of the second batch of games, released alongside Ubisoft All-Star Blast! and Rabbids: Volcano Panic.[2]
The initial version, "v20210326.14.11.Nano" featured four playable characters to start, Ysabel Lomelin, Mateo Galan, Aguilar de Nerha, and Edward Kenway, with Shao Jun, Adéwalé, Alexios, Bayek, Jariya al-Zakiyya and Ezio Auditore da Firenze unlocking as as rewards for daily log-ins, as well as AI opponents and no way to spend coins collected during gameplay.[1]
The following revision, "v20210420.18.15.Nano" added various visual improvements, such as additional animations and vfx, as well as more detailed radar and locational information related to other runners and bug fixes.
The game was shut down sometime before September 2024, when Ubisoft Nano went defunct and all their games and websites were deleted. The game never made it to a stable release outside it's Beta version.[3] [citation needed]
Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Assassin's Creed: Freerunners was a competitive side-scrolling autorunning platformer, where the player controls an Assassin from those unlocked. The player was tasked with competing with other Assassins that are also running the same course, reaching the end before the others. The other characters cannot be interacted with, only serving as a barometer for their placing in the run.[2]
The player had only one input, jump, performed by either tapping the screen on touch enabled devices such as smartphones and tablets or pressing the space button on computers. The character had to be navigated through obstacles that are interacted with automatically, such as awnings that serve as bounce pads, crumbling floors that give way after being stepped on, ropes that can be climbed and grappling points that have the characters enter a swinging arc.[1]
Characters could double jump and wall jump and jump off the swinging off the grappling points, with perfectly timed jumps off these giving the character boosts of speed that would enable them to overtake other characters. While running characters collected coins marked with the Assassin insignia, with higher paths having more rewards.[1]
