The Round City

The Round City of Baghdad served as the city's core during the age of the Abbasid Caliphate. Built in 762–766 CE during the founding of Baghdad, its construction was overseen by al-Mansur,[1] who intended it to be the Abbasids' seat of power in the region.[2] During Abbasid times, its official name was the City of Peace (Arabic: Madinat As-Salam), and it housed the Caliphal Palace at its center.[3]
