Horacio de Heredia was a former Knight Hospitalier active during the Reconquista. When the Spanish Templars orchestrated his family's murder for refusing to side with them, Horacio joined the Spanish Assassins to avenge his house, using his knowledge of Templar operations to assist the Assassins in their cause.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Horacio de Heredia was a heroic and beloved Knight Hospitalier of Rhodes during the Renaissance. Descended from Spanish nobility, he was regarded as one of his Order's most virtuous men. In 1489, during Grand Inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada's rise to power, Horacio's noble house refused to support what they saw as the Inquisition's inexcusable abuse of authority.[1]

Not to be trifled with, Torquemada used his influence over King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile to have his family branded as heretics and executed. Outraged and heartbroken by the news, Horacio decided to abandon the Knights Hospitalier in Rhodes and to return to Spain to avenge them.[1]

Quest for revenge[edit | edit source]

Horacio returned to his old family estate in Old Castile, which the Inquisition had seized and was occupying. There, he met the Spanish Assassins, who had learned of his story and offered their assistance. While rushing in to eliminate the Spanish soldiers, Horacio suffered an injury to his side, but the Assassins rescued him and brought to their hideout in the Sierra de Cazorla to recuperate.[2]

The Assassins later tracked down and eliminated Duran, the commandant responsible for the execution of Horacio's family. Thanking them for their assistance, Horacio pledged his sword to the Order, joining their fight against Torquemada.[3]

Personality and traits[edit | edit source]

While working for the Assassins, Horacio was invaluable to the cause. His upbringing, garb, and knowledge of Templar lore allowed him to infiltrate many locations without suspicion, posing as a Templar knight. Likewise, his sturdy armor and prowess with a two-handed sword made him a bulwark in combat.[1]
