Gullinbursti (Runic: ᚴᚢᛚᛁᚾᛒᚢᚱᛋᛏᛁ), also known as Slíðrugtanni, was an iron boar in Norse mythology.
Mythology[edit | edit source]
Gullinbursti was created by the dwarves Brokkr and Sindri, master blacksmiths and brothers who were commissioned by Loki to create a gift that would rival Sif's hair, Freyr's magically-folding ship Skíðblaðnir, and Odin's spear Gungnir all made by Ivaldi's sons. To do this, Sindri threw a boar skin into the furnace while Brokkr worked the bellows until they made a boar with bristles that glowed in the dark.[1]
Biography[edit | edit source]
When Odin travelled to Svartálfaheimr to rescue his captured son Baldr from the Muspel leader Surtr, he came across Gullinbursti being ridden and mistreated by a jotun warrior. After handling the Jotnar, Odin reclaimed his boar and used him to venture through the realm easier.[2]
