Fortress on the Exe

The Fortress on the Exe (Latin: Isca Dumnoniorum; Old English: Escanceaster) was a large Anglo-Saxon fortification build along the River Exe in the northwestern part of the region, west of the Village of Dumnonia. It was home to many soldiers and was used to fortify the surrounding region.

In the 9th century, it was raided multiple times by the Vikings Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, Vagn, and her longship crew.[1]
