Grenhellir Shelter

Grenhellir Shelter (Runic: ᚴᚱᛅᚾᚼᛅᛚᛚᛁᚱ ᛋᚼᛅᛚᛏᛅᛦ) was a dwarven shelter in southern Gullnámar, Svartálfaheimr. During the warlord Surtr's invasion of Svartalfheim, dwarven survivors fled towards the shelter set up by the Sons of Ivaldi.

History[edit | edit source]

In Eivor Varinsdottir's visions of Odin's time in Svartalfheim, the Æsir lord Havi looked for the other dwarven shelters after meeting with Jordber Shelter's chief Brudd.[1] While traveling through the region, he found markings leading him towards a hole in the ground.[2] Going down the hole, he found a passage through a crystal cave and eventually found the Grenhellir Shelter. Talking with the dwarven fugitives, he came across its shelter chief Gunborg, who was reluctant of his visit. They soon discussed about her informant Fritjof going missing from his last location at a house in the Jeweler's District in the fallen city of Uldar.[3]

From Havi's campaign in the region, both Fritjof and Tyra made their way back to the shelter after being rescued by Havi.[4] However, they left to find Fritjof's father Einar, who only aided the Muspels and Surtr's son Glöð to save his son. They found and aided Havi and Einar in opening the Vault of the Ancients in Old City to recover a relic that Havi may use against Surtr.[5] Shockingly, when they opened the vault, they found Ivaldi alive, contrary to Gunborg's reports. After learning of Ivaldi's dismantling the relic, Havi helped his dwarven allies escape Surtr's wife Sinmara, who arrived there to stop them. While Havi fought Sinmara, the dwarfs made their way back to the shelter.[6]

Just outside the shelter, Havi joined Ivaldi as they talked about his rescue. In their discussion, Havi asked Ivaldi for help against Surtr but they were interrupted by Glöð's attack nearby. Havi confronted Glöð, who turned himself into a molten version of a lynx. After they fought, Havi killed Glöð as Ivaldi, Gunborg, and Fritjof ran outside to witness his demise. Afterwards, he continue to talk with Ivaldi as they agreed to find each other later if they found any more artifacts. Before leaving, Havi entered the shelter and said his goodbyes to Einar, Tyra, and Fritjof after thanking them for their help.[6]

Through his travels, he revisited the shelter to find the dwarven fugitives he saved from their Muspels and jötnar captors as they gave him gifts and resources in return. While inside, he also visited a dwarven artisan Murin and traded uncut gemstones with him in return of materials and resources.[7]
