Surus was a war elephant stationed in the Roman military's camp in the Green Mountains region of Cyrenaica. Around 47 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa hunted Surus down before it could be deployed.[1]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Surus, meaning 'the Syrian', was also the name of Hannibal Barca's personal war elephant and the longest surviving of the 37 he brought across the Alps in his failed invasion of Rome.
