"The Cult has existed for decades and will exist for centuries more."
―Melite's motto.[src]

Melite (died 420s BCE) was a former priest and a member of the Worshippers of the Bloodline branch of the Cult of Kosmos in Messara, Greece, during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Prior to joining the Cult, Melite served as a priest in a temple in Greece. At some point, he made the acquaintance of Iokaste, the Sage of the Worshippers of the Bloodline branch of the Cult of Kosmos. At her command, Melite killed all the devotees serving the gods under him.[1]

Following this, Melite left his old life behind, only telling Diona, a fellow Worshipper, of this in a letter.[1] Soon after, Iokaste commende Melite's obedience,[2] and ordered Melite to go to Pephka,[1] and look there for the origins of Deimos' bloodline, the object of the branch's worship.[3]

As soon as he reached Krete, he could tell he was on the right track, finding the Knossos Palace's ruins, and feeling something older and darker beneath them.[1] However, unbeknownst to Iokaste, or any of Melite's peers, he was not looking to fulfill the Sage's intents, but his own: to harness the powers of the bloodline's source solely for his own benefit.[3]

Melite also made the acquaintance of the bandits in the ruins of Zakros, and discussed with them about meeting at a villa in Kydonia, Messara.[4] While Melite waited at the villa for his accomplices, he instead met the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who was hunting down all members of the Cult of Kosmos.[5]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The name of Melite, a character in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, is derived from the Greek word μέλῐ (méli), meaning 'honey'. He shares the name with multiple female figures in Greek mythology.
