"psythias or psythia?" / "ater the 7th–6th centuries BCE" effectively means "after the 6th century BCE" / what is a "pseudo-polis"? Ionia was a whole region, wasn't it?

Ionia was an ancient region located on the western coast of Anatolia, present-day Turkey.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Ionia was known for its variety of white grapes called psythia which produced a very sweet wine known today as Liasto.[1] Another claim to fame from the region was being the birthplace of Greek philosophy after the 6th century BCE. The first philosophers dedicated themselves to natural philosophy and were called physikoi or physiologoi.[2]
