Mikjel was a Norse merchant who lived in Stavanger in the 860s.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 866, he heard rumors that Thorsteinn Silvertongue sold a faulty sail to Bjorn, thus marking Thorsteinn as an oathbreaker. When Thorsteinn and his wife Gunnhilda Gunnarsdottir visited him to aid Gunnhilda to live alone while Thorsteinn prepared for his departure on his first raid, he forwent doing any business and told them of the accusations laid against Thorsteinn. He later joined a small meeting in the market, heard Thorsteinn find evidence of Bjorn's lies, and was rallied to support Thorsteinn's case. He was present when Thorsteinn proved his innocence at Harholl in front of Harald Fairhair and agreed with the subsequent exile of Bjorn.[1]
