The Ruinous Sanctuary was an ancient Lihyanite sanctuary located northeast of the Lion's Tomb in the al-Ula Valley's Southern Wilds.

History[edit | edit source]

In the later 1st millennium BCE, the Lihyanites established the sanctuary at the city Dadan. Among its features were examples of Egyptian- and Greek-influenced Lihyanite sculptures, including colossal stone statues that are interpreted as local rulers, as well as a large stone basin, which was likely used for the worshippers' ablutions.[1]

In the 860s, the Alamut Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq visited the ruined landmark while passing through the region.[2]
