Collectables/Collectibles

Hey, Sadelyrate

You're uh, not the first to have tried adding a "collectibles" category, but in previous instances, it's always been deleted by Sima, because "collectibles" is a kind of OOU term. I don't see this being any different, but perhaps talk to Sima as to why this category isn't accepted. In the mean time, it might be a good idea to stop adding articles to the collectibles category. Related to this, there's you licensing the picture under CC. Unless the artist has licensed the artwork thus, you've committed a greater crime than simple theft; you've essentially claimed that you have the right to control the artwork's distribution.

The image is properly sourced, yes. However, sourcing <> permission. Since we live in the world that we do, there is no excuse to neglect asking an artist (alive, online) for permission to use their artwork. In any way, shape or form. For all anyone can know, the picture you've chosen to use (since it "seemed to fit") is a picture the artist made for their own personal use, of their own character. Madeleine de L'Isle

Hey Sade,

I'm going to expand the Madeleine de L'Isle article pretty soon, but I noticed you'd left a message on her talkpage at some point:

"There's really nothing known about Madeleine's life before the part she played in Liberation? Her surname just makes me wonder..."

And it sorta made me wonder what you meant in regards to her surname. I'm actually quite interested to see if her name carries more meaning than you'd think (and, as to why the creators decided to name her as such). I've just googled her name and all I came up with is the "Îles de la Madeleine" or Magdalen Islands, which are part of the Canadian province of Quebec. I just wanted to know if that's what you were referring to as well, or if you had hit upon something else. As a sidenote, her database entry does confirm that she was born in New Orleans.

Egyptian mythology

Not sure if you think you're funny, or you're just being rude, but the message you posted as changelog in your edit on the page Egyptian mythology was quite unnecessary. I'm not amused. I've written that article all by myself, with no help whatsoever and English isn't my main language. My English isn't bad, it's just with such a big article that i'm so focussed on the content I oversee some language discrepanties. It's not easy to have the story in your head in your own language, and having translate it to English and making sure the syntax of the sentences is correct.

Pray tell, what information in that article did I delete that was not against the Manual of Style of this Wiki? What I did was to make the article better fit the guidelines laid out in that, help where I could, at least a little.

As for calling the language atrocious... well, English isn't my main language either. It might not have been the best word to describe it, but at that moment, that day, I felt it best described it.

I think that Sadelyrate really was a bit blunt at the spur of the moment, a common error that many of us have made. However, at the same time, he wasn't entirely unjustified for being so alarmed by the state of the article, and I really appreciate him going over it and fixing it. I, myself, can get that anxious when I see an article loaded with syntax and grammar errors, so I understand the feeling. Of course, the edit summary could have been politer, and we should always remember to not sound too agitated because this can indeed come across as rude and unwelcoming to new users. As well, we should always try our best to be patient about the fact different users have varying levels of English. But I'm sure it wasn't Sadel's intention to insult anyone in particular because he was unlikely to be aware that there was a sole author and who that was; his harsh words were directed at the article alone. Sure, me too. I also appreciate the fact that he improved the article. He can be as alarmed as he likes, some people do really hate grammer errors. Me too in fact, and if I would've spotted them, I would've fixed them. It's just, after you wrote a long text, and read over it dozens and dozens of times for content errors and gramatical erorrs, you tend to overlook things. And I put a lot of work in that article. As long as he's being polite, it's all fine by me. We're a wiki so people may change everything if they'd think it'd improve things. I just couldn't stand the summary, and for me, it did sound really unfriendly. But we'll keep it at this. I couldn't let it slide completely as I wouldn't have slept otherwise last night (I do take things people say to heart, even though I don't know you personally), but let's just forget it. Titling of residency categories

Hey Sadel, just noticed your creation of the "Category:Residents of Memphis", and I just wanted to let you know that actually, it would be better for it to be named "Category:Memphites". (Wikipedia says that the demonyn of Memphis, Tennessee is Memphian but Wiktionary & other usual sources on Egypt says the demonym of Memphis, Egypt is Memphite... but I'm not entirely sure between the two...) When preferable, a demonym should always be used because it is simply more concise. This goes with "Category:Residents of Siwa" as well. It really should just be "Category:Siwans", but I have not found the time to correct this yet. When creating categories by a city or town, you should only title it with the word "residents" if there isn't a known demonym on hand you can use to summarize it in a single word. Villa Auditore would be such a case because demonyms aren't usually used for a single estate. I'm not so sure about Masyaf since I don't know if we can figure out the correct demonym for it. For that matter, the very old category of "Davenport Homestead residents" should also be renamed to "Davenport Homesteaders" when we have the time.

But given everything that's in, say, the Egyptian mythology-article, this seemed a plausible article to create, given the number of Olympians already mentioned/featured in the franchise. Whilst I personally disagree with the existence of an article on Egyptian mythology, I will say that it uses information from a verifiable and, more importantly, released, source. Agreed on it being speculative. To be honest, what I've seen of that Egyptian mythology-article's evolution, a lot of it has been added later, and some of it is still iffy as far as the in-game canon goes. Nickname

Hi Sade. I've noticed that you've been replacing the {{Conjecture}} tabs on a lot of articles to {{Nickname}} today. Please note that {{Nickname}} is only for those articles where the title is a "nickname, title, or alias." Many of the articles you've been editing are actually under conjectural titles (i.e. titles we've given them, rather than in-universe nicknames), such as Sumerian Sage, Roman Assassin, Galeazzo Maria Sforza's bodyguard, Templar Admiral (1735) (and practially any other article title with a date in parenthesis) and so the moves are incorrect.

Question

Hey Sadelyrate, I have a question. What do you think we should do with support quests? Someone has linked all three support quests of The Athenian Leader to that page, so i've added the descriptions there. But it seems like other support quests like A Venomous Encounter and Escape from Athens (if i understand our quests template correctly) have their own page. I just created a page for The Goddesses' Hunt side quest and added all descriptions there. But we might want to decide to split these up. Not sure what to do as Raylan13 has linked those support quests to the main quest in the case of The Athenian Leader, but has made a separate page for A Venomous Encounter. I'm lost.... On one hand, treating the support quests merely as goals for a bigger quest would make sense. On the other... they're like sidequests, and I'd be almost tempted to treat them as such (so under their own title in the Memory-template). However, I'd advise you to turn to one of the admins. Granadin category

Sadel, I fear you were too hasty with the Granadin article. For one thing, we had had a discussion a couple of years before regarding the proper demonym for Granada and had settled on Granadan as the one that appears the most in Google searches and also attested by, at the very least, Wiktionary. In fact, we had suspected that Granadin as it appears in Province of Granada might even have been a typo since it is less attested. In any case, there was much uncertainty about it, but either way, because it was controversial between users, I am uncomfortable with this abrupt name change of the category even though I know you were just doing your best to use the right demonym.

Also, I should point out that Granada is not a city, but it was a nationality of its own, and it also should not go under Spaniards because the Emirate of Granada was its own sovereign state that was conquered by the Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, two other sovereign states, before they fully merged into the Kingdom of Spain. Some clarification: the original category you were replacing referred to the nationality of the Emirate of Granada. I just realized that you were likely thinking of the city of Granada itself. I still think Granadin is correct, and it’s what was used by historian Will Durant. But mainly I agree that we need to come up with a way to distinguish between nationality and residentiality of city-states and basically revamp that whole set of category pages including ethnicities. I had initially thought that a category for residents of the city of Granada was unnecessary because many characters from that city are also simultaneously nationals of Granada with a few exceptions of characters being from the country but not the city. However, with the addition a lot more Moors from Rebellion, there might be several more characters affiliated with the country but not the city now, going off of my memory. Heracles name in Greek

Hey saw you linked the Greek spelling to wikitionary. Noticed it added an apostrophe/glottal stop to the first letters. I think that’s a Wikipedia thing to distinguish it from similar looking Latin letters but not actually present in the original way of writing it. That's not a matter of distinguishing. The original, uncontracted form is Ἡρακλέης. The apostrophe/glottal stop is there to signify a silent letter: something you don't really write or say, but whose presence has to be acknowledged. Sadelyrate (siniath) 10:01, November 3, 2018 (UTC)

I wasnt sure if Ancient Greek writing conventions included diacritics. Looked it up, it’s actually called a rough breathing (I had just assumed glottal stop and is kinda its opposite) denoting an added 'h' sound to the word. The one in front of the other name curving the other way, a smoothe breathing, is more like a glottal stop. They’ve been dropped from modern conventions which was what messed me up. Ikaros trivia

That loading screen tip doesn't really confirm what was shown in the novel as it doesn't mention Ikaros's age. In game, Pythagoras calls Ikaros an old friend and its implied he sent him to Kass which would be pretty hard to due if Kass found Ikaros as a fledgeling. RE:Forest Islands

The two situations are kind of different here, but first, let me explain that if the place exists in-game but the name isn't mentioned, then of course it merits an article, only that it needs a conjectural name. However, the name "Forest Islands" is actually provided in a Ubisoft-licensed source, the website, so it won't be conjectural either. It's properly sourced. The website is a valid source. Going back to the "Twelve Olympians" article, the gods who comprise the group known to us as the Twelve Olympians do exist in the series, but what hasn't been confirmed to exist in the series is the concept of this specific grouping which is what the article would be describing. To give an example of this, let's hypothesize that there's a game about you, Odeyssus, and me, and that in real-life, we have formed a group called Sadelodeyiero lol, but this group isn't mentioned in the game. Just because we exist in the game, doesn't mean that our group exists in the game even though we have such a group in real-life. In the same way, just because the gods known to us as a group called the Twelve Olympians exist in the AC series, it doesn't necessarily mean that in the series, this specific group exists even if they do. Now, it is 99% likely that the "Twelve Olympian" grouping does exist in the AC universe, but both because it's not necessary to give it an article when it is never mentioned and because of strict sourcing policies, it doesn't need its own article. I would personally allow it be mentioned as one of those exceptions that allow us to take from external sources though, but it shouldn't have its own article. Commas

Hey Sadel, I think you've probably noticed by now that I've corrected and commented on your placement of commas in your edits quite often recently. I don't mean to single you out because I've noticed these common punctuation mistakes made by many other users as well, but I just wanted to double-check how well you understand the rules regarding when or when not to apply commas. It seems to me that you probably often base comma placement on verbal rhythm (like where it sounds like one would give a half-second pause while reading or speaking the line). However, there are actual, definitive, grammatical rules regarding the usage of commas which I agree can be very confusing.

Hey Sadelyrate, I just wanted to say I find the images you made from, for example, the Bottlenose dolphins stunning. They're are really beautiful, amazing work adding those! I just love how better the articles are with some images supporting them, I just wish we had that for all animal pages, a lot from Black Flag are missing images. But making screens on my xbox wouldn't really result in nice images, and absolutely not even near as beautiful as you make them. Greek and Roman gods

Hi Sadelyrate
I'd like to tell you I'm a huge admirer of the work you've been doing with the articles on Greek and Roman mythology. I would like to call your attention about an issue I've been pondering: understandably, you linked to Zeus, Hera and Athena on the Twelve Gods page. The point is, we have only one article for Jupiter, Juno and Minerva - so Zeus, Hera and Athena are simply redirects (additionally, Venus redirects to Aphrodite). Conversely, we happen to have duplicate articles for the same deities:

• Poseidon and Neptune
• Hades and Pluto
• Ares and Mars
• Artemis and Diana.

So I'd like to ask your insight into this. Perhaps we could merge the duplicates? Or, vice versa, we should have separate articles for Jupiter and Zeus, Juno and Hera, Athena and Minerva?

I actually suggested making separate articles for Zeus, Hera, Athena, and Venus but this was shot down, because canonically those have been confirmed to be merely interpretations of the Isu 'originals', and thus, a footnote in the Isu-articles was deemed to be sufficient. Alpha/Elite ships

Since you have Assassin's Creed: Odyssey do you think you could identify the name of the ship captained by Sokos, I've looked all over YouTube and there wasn't a single video in which the player used Ikarus the eagle to identify it.  I would do it myself but I don't the game.  Oh and while you're at it could you also identify the ships on which the sails Labyrinth's Bow, Summer Wine, and Triskelion can be found?  I want to know the name of every ship sunk by the Adrestia before I add a "Noted conflicts" section on its article.  Frontierchris (talk) 01:59, February 2, 2019 (UTC)

Labours of Hercules

Hi Sadelyrate. I've noticed you have uploaded pictures of the reliefs of seven Labours of Herakles, which is quite cool. I would take several screenshots from Odyssey myself, but sadly I reside in a place different from where I keep my Xbox. Anyway, I was wondering whether in-game only 7 metopes exist, or if there are all 12 of them. Also, I would like to ask you if the metopes do come - as historically appropriate - from the Temple of Zeus in Olympia. Thank you.

I've only seen those seven so far, but keeping my eyes out for more. In-game, those reliefs can be found quite literally everywhere: they're in Sanctuary of Delphi, they're in Sanctuary of Apollo, in Athens, in Sanctuary of Olympia... everywhere you've got a temple or whatever. The Dagger

Mercenaries

Sadel, there are two mercenaries I found, Chloe the Poison Drinker and Syntyche the Dragon-Skinned.  I would make articles for them, but the problem is that I can only find one YouTube video for each of them, so I can't tell whether or not there are other mercenaries who share their titles, or if they come in the same form or not.  Could you check your game and see if you can confirm it for more?  Oh and I might as well explain the same form thing, you see I found these other mercenaries; Yulios the Balanced, Klaasr the Exasperated, Rasmos the Talented, Nikolaos the Fearless Cook, etc. and their names were the same in each video but their forms or avatars were always different.  Frontierchris (talk) 17:41, February 13, 2019 (UTC)

Change the spelling of Crete to Krete

Hey, do you think we could change the title of the Crete article and spell it with the K? It's a Greek island and given that it's a Greek originated word, I think we ought to be paying respect to that by being as authentic as possible. So, we should spell it with the Greek Kappa. The Latin C is just Romanizing the word, which I don't think is accurate either to the word or to the region itself.

Either way's fine by me. The 'rule' of this wiki has been that the spelling that's the latest and/or most numerous is the spelling preferred. In both regards, Odyssey is pretty useless: in the game we've got it spelled both as 'Krete', 'Kretan' in dialogue and quest texts, but also as 'Crete', 'Cretan'. Fair enough, although I would still argue that the manual of style for foreign words be that the word (s) be spelled in the manner that they originally appear in to denote their status as non-English terms and that any alternative spellings be mentioned. For example, Krete is alternatively spelled as Crete in the English language, but that the most authentic way is the phonetic Greek usage. The same thing can be applied to Makedonia/Macedonia and Herakles/Heracles. Statues of Serapis

The original statue of Serapis erected by Ptolemy I Soter was historically depicted with Cerberus, at least according to Plutarch. I feel the way you worded the edit to the trivia point makes it sound like the devs on their own chose to depict it similar to Hades rather than that actually being to correct depiction. Given the design of the game, it can be pretty hard. Even though we have some key points (Plague of Athens, Potidaia, etc.) to suggest the time frames and dates, there's preciously little hard proof of when certain things happen. Re: Pausanias

The novel is where I got his cryptonym 'Red-Eyed Lion' from. It does not give a death year and it actually doesn’t show him die, but he is dealt with after the Olympics which should have been 428 BCE and before Pylos in 425 BCE.
