Fehmi

Fehmi (died 861) was a street urchin who lived in Anbar during the 9th century, where he was part of Dervis' network of thieves. Like the rest of the children who were under Dervis, Fehmi was close to Basim ibn Ishaq, who was the most skilled of Dervis' thieves.

Biography

In 861, Basim was summoned by Dervis to carry out an assignment on behalf of the Hidden Ones. Prior to meeting Dervis, Basim met Fehmi outside, who informed him that Caliph Al-Mutawakkil had arrived in the city with his court. Fehmi bragged that he saw the caliph up-close, describing him as a tall and large man, and also told Basim that he heard whispers of an important visit. Basim immediately guessed his information source to be Halaa, the daughter of the palace guard, and told Fehmi he knew where he went when he claimed to be fetching water. Basim teased Fehmi about Halaa's kind personality and hinted she may be more than just friends to him in the future. Later on, Fehmi talked to Ameen about the caliph and his guards parading into the Winter Palace with heavily-armed guards.

Later that night, Basim attempted to sneak into the palace to recover the contents of a chest, hoping the Hidden Ones would notice his act and accept him. However, he accidentally murdered the caliph Al-Mutawakkil, which led his son Abu 'Abdallah to send guards after him. Basim's actions implicated Fehmi and the rest of Dervis' network. As retribution, Fehmi and the people living in Dervis' quarters were executed, with their bodies hanged on wooden poles for display. The next morning, Basim arrived too late and regretfully discovered the bodies of Fehmi and the deceased.
