Assassin's Creed: Leap Into History is a compilation soundtrack album released by Laced Records in February 2023.

Background[edit | edit source]

In collaboration with Ubisoft for the 15th anniversary of the Assassin's Creed series, a special 5-disc vinyl box set was announced to release in January 2023, before being postponed to February. It contains 70 tracks from across 12 mainline titles and the track listing will follow the historical timeline from Assassin's Creed: Odyssey to Assassin's Creed: Syndicate.[1]

Featuring music from composers; Jesper Kyd, Lorne Balfe, Brian Tyler, Michiel Schrey, Seán Dagher, Nils Brown, Chris Tilton, Sarah Schachner, Elitsa Alexandrova, Austin Wintory, The Flight (Joe Henson and Alexis Smith), and Einar Selvik.[1]

The box set features a rigid slipcase with gold foil and a deluxe 3mm spined disc sleeves, and will release in two Editions. The Standard Edition will include plain black traditional discs,[1] while the Limited Edition exclusive to the label's own store will include 'gold nugget' discs, a custom slipmat with the brand's new 15th Anniversary logo, and a 12" art print.[2]

Composition[edit | edit source]

Due to Jesper Kyd's involvement in the series as a whole, he's been noted as having shaped the sound of Assassin's Creed. His track "Ezio's Family" from the soundtrack to Assassin's Creed II, an emotional piece about loss and struggle during the Renaissance, later became the unofficial, and official theme for the whole series.[1]

The sea shanties players heard in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed: Rogue were sung by Michiel Schrey, Seán Dagher, and Nils Brown, creating a more detailed setting as diegetic music began playing an increased role in the game world experience.[1]

Austin Wintory's world he created through music for Syndicate was described as being "cheeky 19th century waltzes" following the Frye twins Jacob and Evie as they nimbly assassinated their prey.[1]

The Assassin's Creed: Origins score by Sarah Schachner had haunting electronic elements juxtaposed onto the stunning scenes of Egypt under the Ptolemaic dynasty.[1]

Einar Selvik, on doing the score for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla was said to be one of the "few people more qualified to add their voice to [the game]."[1]
