Scotthoh Farm was a small Anglo-Saxon farm northwest of Burgh Castle in the kingdom of East Anglia during the 9th century. Around 873 CE, its inhabitants decided to lock their doors, throw away the key, and stay where they were in the face of increasingly violent and frequent raids by the Viking jarl Rued, even as their neighbors fled to Northwic. Eventually, the Norse forces reached the settlement and slaughtered the populace.[1]

Some time later, Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan traveled to the farm en route to the fyrd assembling at their forward camp at the northeast coast. Rued's forces were stationed all around the ruined farm while a couple more tried to breach the farmhouse. Eivor slew them, found the farmhouse's key inside the farm well, then entered the house. She found the farmers' valuables and a page torn from one of their diaries,[1] as well as a lone survivor that Rued's clan was unable to reach. He had heard the horns blare out from King's Bury and the other East Anglian settlements and readily agreed to join the fyrd, finding his own way to the camp.[2]
