Raeganhere was an Anglo-Saxon man who lived in Lincoln in the 9th century. One of the caretakers of Lord Hunwald, Raeganhere was a loyal servant and housekeeper to Hunwald's father, Ealdorman Hundbeorht, and their family line.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Little is known about his past, though Raeganhere was inferred to be present as one of the caretakers of Hunwald when he was a child. Raeganhere also seemed of a lower class than Hundbeorht, as he never disobeyed those over his status.[1]
In 875, at Hunwald's house, Raeganhere was working in the house, until he was found by Hunwald and his escort, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir. Surprised, Raeganhere was elated to see Hunwald safe and sound. When Hunwald asked for his father, Raeganhere admitted that the ealdorman was gone, taken by soldiers to be with a convent of nuns presided over by Abbess Acha. Raeganhere stated that Bishop Herefrith was the interim man-in-charge, as he took care of Lincoln after the absence of Ealdorman Hundbeorht.[1]
